Faith Kipyegon vs the 4-Minute Mile 2025

On June 26, 2025, the world will witness a bold attempt to redefine the limits of women’s middle-distance running as Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon chases the elusive sub-4-minute mile at Stade Charléty in Paris. Titled Breaking4: Faith Kipyegon vs. the 4-Minute Mile, the event is backed by Nike and modeled after their 2017 Breaking2 project.

  • Event: Faith Kipyegon vs the 4-Minute Mile 2025
  • Date: Thursday 26 June 2025
  • Venue: Stade Charlety in Paris

The event will be live-streamed globally via Nike’s YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and Amazon Prime Video, starting at 7:15 p.m. CEST / 1:15 p.m. ET. A two-part docuseries—Breaking4—on Prime Video chronicles Kipyegon’s preparation and journey, with the first episode released June 20 and the conclusion airing after the attempt.

Kipyegon, a three-time Olympic champion and world record holder in both the 1500m (3:49.04) and the mile (4:07.64), will aim to cut at least 7.65 seconds off her personal best—a feat never before achieved by a woman. The challenge blends peak athletic performance with cutting-edge innovation, including aerodynamic suits, Nike’s lightest super-spikes, male pacers for optimal drafting, and fine-tuned pacing conditions.

While the time won’t be officially record-eligible due to the controlled environment, the symbolic impact is enormous. If successful, Kipyegon would break a psychological barrier that has defined men’s middle-distance running since Roger Bannister’s 1954 milestone.
